Located in Northwest Omaha on State Street and Blair High Road, Omaha’s Metropolitan Utilities District constructed a new 135,000-square-foot building to house field operations crews for the construction, distribution, central maintenance, stores, and transportation divisions of M.U.D.

The building also contains an indoor parking garage for fleet vehicles. The structure is a combination of pre-engineered metal buildings and conventional steel framing with insulated precast concrete wall panels and insulated metal panel exteriors. There are four ancillary structures on site that complete the campus development.

Key features designed to be included in the project are:

  • A shared drive through loading bay with cranes for all divisions
  • Welding, Machine, Carpentry, and Electrical Shop spaces
  • Central Stores Warehousing
  • (4) vehicle service bays; 3 pull in/pull out, 1 drive through
  • (11) indoor drive through vehicle parking lanes to minimize multi-point turns for vehicles pulling trailers and equipment
  • (6) fueling stations providing gas, diesel, and CNG fuels
  • dedicated employee training classrooms and conference room spaces
  • Employee showers, lockers, fitness center and breakroom

The design team for this project is a partnership of Davis Design and Holland Basham Architects along with equipment planning consulting from WRA.
