The new Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) station at the airport, which opened in September 2020, was designed to support the airport’s evolving emergency response needs. The 6,138-square-foot facility provides sufficient space to house both a new 1,500-gallon fire truck and an existing response vehicle, ensuring readiness and operational efficiency for airfield emergencies.

The station features two drive-through apparatus bays equipped with four 18-by-18-foot overhead doors, allowing for rapid deployment of emergency vehicles. The 3,310-square-foot apparatus bay includes a vertical stack rail exhaust system, trench drains, and Toxalert™ TSM stand-alone carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide gas monitors, creating a safe, functional, and modern environment for ARFF personnel and equipment.

Throughout construction, the project team successfully navigated several challenges, including high groundwater conditions and a foundation redesign that required the use of helical piers. Despite these unforeseen obstacles, the team maintained the project schedule and budget, delivering the facility within the planned 202-day construction timeframe while meeting all performance and operational objectives.
