Bryan Health’s outpatient surgery center and medical office building at Bryan East Campus opened in January 2018. Over the past two decades, Bryan purchased 35 properties in a four-square-block area to facilitate expansion. Initially, the focus was on adding an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) in collaboration with Surgery Center Services of America, an ASC consultant from Mesa, Arizona. As planning evolved and additional growth opportunities emerged, Davis Design was engaged to develop a mixed-use facility, incorporating medical office space above the ASC.

The $25 million, four-story, 100,000-square-foot facility caters to various medical needs. The first floor houses the Doctors Outpatient Surgery Center, boasting 17,000 square feet, six surgical suites, and room for future expansion. Equipped for both general and specialized surgeries, it anticipates performing approximately 5,000 surgeries in its inaugural year.

The remaining three levels, each around 20,000 square feet, offer tenant office space. Atop these office floors sits a mechanical penthouse providing HVAC to those levels. Additionally, a 175-foot skywalk on the third level facilitates foot traffic for surgical staff, linking the 5055 Building to other structures on the Bryan East Campus.

The building’s design blends stone, zinc, aluminum, and glass, creating a striking contrast between the lower and upper levels. Patient access to the surgery center is from the north, while visitors to the medical offices enter from the east, accommodating the site’s 40-foot elevation difference.
