SCC Welding Technology Center

Davis Design is proud to announce that the Southeast Community College Welding Technology Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, has been selected for publication in Endeavor Business Media’s American School & University 2026 Educational Interiors Showcase, where the project received a Special Citation. The award-winning facility is featured in the August 2026 issue of American School & University magazine and online at SchoolDesigns.com.

The Educational Interiors Showcase is one of the nation’s premier competitions recognizing excellence in educational design. Each year, the program highlights facilities that exemplify innovation, functionality, and exceptional learning environments that support student success.

A Facility Built to Meet Workforce Demands

The Southeast Community College Welding Technology Center was developed in response to Nebraska’s growing shortage of skilled labor and the evolving needs of welding education. As home to the state’s oldest welding program, SCC experienced increasing enrollment while operating in facilities that limited growth and lacked the infrastructure necessary for modern training.

Working closely with SCC, Davis Design provided programming and design services for the 100,000-square-foot facility, now recognized as one of the largest educational welding training centers in the United States. The state-of-the-art center expands student capacity, strengthens industry partnerships, and provides a safe, high-performance environment for hands-on learning. The design incorporates durable materials, advanced ventilation systems, and a clear, efficient layout that prioritizes safety, visibility, and workflow while supporting the rigorous demands of welding instruction.

National Recognition for Educational Excellence

Projects selected for the Educational Interiors Showcase are evaluated by a jury of education design experts, including members of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Committee on Architecture for Education and school administrators from across the country. For the 2026 competition, only 54 projects were selected for publication.

Jurors evaluated submissions based on criteria that reflect today’s most effective educational environments, including innovation, inclusivity, sustainability, health and safety, adaptability, collaboration, construction quality, and inspiring design.

Receiving this recognition reflects the shared vision and dedication of Southeast Community College, its stakeholders, and the project team. Davis Design is honored to have partnered with SCC to create a facility that supports workforce development, advances technical education, and prepares students for successful careers in the skilled trades.
