Davis Design Partners with Hall County to Expand Historical Courthouse
1.29.2025

Hall County, Nebraska, is embarking on a significant expansion of its historic courthouse. Having faithfully served the community since its construction in 1904, the existing facility has reached its capacity limits. This project addresses the pressing need for increased judicial space while honoring the building’s historical significance.
Key Project Objectives:
- Enhanced Judicial Function: The expansion will accommodate the county’s growing caseload with the addition of three new county courtrooms, keeping the existing historic district courtroom.
- Modernized Security: A paramount focus is on enhancing security measures to safeguard the safety of all courthouse users, including judges, staff, jurors, and the public.
- Improved Accessibility: The project will prioritize accessibility for all users, including individuals with disabilities, by incorporating ADA-compliant features throughout the building.
- Enhanced Functionality: The expansion will include upgrades to court clerk offices, restrooms, and public spaces, creating a more efficient and comfortable environment for all who utilize the courthouse.
- Expanded Parking: The project will improve the current parking challenges by providing additional parking spaces. In addition to public parking, an added secure perimeter will be added for staff parking.
Preservation of History:
Honoring the Hall County Courthouse’s historic significance while addressing modern security and space needs, the county has chosen to expand the 1904 landmark with a thoughtfully designed addition that integrates contemporary amenities, preserves key historic elements, and provides a dignified new entry that complements the existing Beaux-Arts architecture while reflecting the building’s role as a symbol of justice in the community.
